Singapore's IDA announces simplifications to Equipment Registration
scheme - July 2005 |

Sinapore's
telecommunications regulator, IDA, announced that simple
single-line equipment such as
telephones, fax machines and dial-up modems need no longer be
registered with IDA before
being sold for local use in Singapore. Such equipment need no longer
have IDA's "Complies with IDA Standards" compliance labels affixed to
it.
However, as an option, suppliers who wish to continue affixing the IDA
compliance label to indicate that the equipment conforms to IDA's standards pertaining to network compatibility, users' safety and non-interference with radio-communications can register their single-line equipment with IDA.
More complex multi-line telecommunication
devices and high-powered radio communication devices such as PABX and
Wireless Broadband Access equipment must still be registered with IDA. This equipment must carry IDA's
compliance labels as proof that the equipment conforms to IDA's
standards.
Suppliers of IDA-registered equipment are
now given the added flexibility of affixing the labels either on the
equipment itself, its packaging or in the accompanying manual.
IDA also announced reductions in application fees and processing times.
